From the rainforests of Central and South America, Anthurium is regarded as a reliable bloomer. A semi-epiphyte that in the wild perches on trees rather than in the ground, its "flower" is a trick: the glossy heart-shaped spathe is a leaf in costume, and its true blooms are the hundreds of tiny dots on the spike it cradles.
Given sufficiently bright indirect light, ample humidity, and a chunky airy mix, it barely keeps a discernable calendar: each waxy spathe lasts six to twelve weeks, a new one following before the last fades, pausing only briefly in midwinter.
